The difference between PC and PMMA

Both PC and PMMA are transparent plastics. In the case of the same thickness and the same raw material particles, the light transmittance of PMMA is 2-3% higher than that of PC, close to 90%. It is not easy to distinguish with the naked eye. However, the difference in other physical properties between the two is relatively large, because they are two materials after all.

1. PMMA is easy to soften when it reaches 70 degrees, while PC is 120 degrees, so PC is more temperature-resistant, heat-resistant, and has a wider working temperature.

2. With the same thickness, the impact strength of PC is 30-50 times that of PMMA. PC boards above 6mm are bulletproof materials, and PC boards of 3mm cannot be smashed by ordinary adults with a hammer.

3. PC is a flame retardant material, which belongs to Class B flame retardant (UL94-V2 level in the world), one of the self-extinguishing plastics, and is not easy to burn, while PMMA is not flame retardant.

4. PC is an environmentally friendly plastic, and PMMA has some unattainable physical properties. Therefore, PMMA applications have been eliminated in some foreign fields.
